Drwęca Lake BOAT TRIP

A boat trip across the picturesque waters of the Drwęca Lake. During the trip, you’ll have an opportunity to appreciate the beautiful panoramic view of Ostróda. The boat goes up to the northern part of the lake, where the settlement of Piławki was formerly located. You’ll circle the Orzechowa Island, an attractive place for leisure popular among the local sailors. The scenic architecture around the bridge called the ‘Iron Bridge’, which separates the western, 10-kilometres long arm of the lake always delights the passengers. The trip provides unforgettable moments amidst enchanting scenery.

OSTRÓDA-ELBLĄG CANAL

The 3-hour trip starts and ends in Byczyniec, at the very heart of the Elbląg Canal, where the History Chamber of the Elbląg Canal is located. During the trip, the boat crosses the ramps in Buczyniec, Kąty and Oleśnica six times, first going down and then up on the way back. It’s a great opportunity to learn how the unique hydrotechnical devices work as well as to admire and take photographs of the local wildlife.

WALKS around the Ostróda lakes

Ostróda is a true kingdom of water tourism with as many as 9 surrounding lakes, the most popular of which is the Drwęca Lake. It’s surrounded by amazing walking paths.
One of them is the forest path that connects Ostróda with the forest settlement of Piławki. The path leads along the Drwęca Lake shore. Every summer, countless events are organised at the Drwęca Lake shore. The lake has a wonderful tourist infrastructure including accommodation, equipment rental, cafes and restaurants, the beach... One of the best attractions of the Drwęca Lake is the water ski and wakeboard lift (800 m). The Ostróda-Piławki path is marked in blue. It’s 8 kilometres long.

The path gives an opportunity to admire the panoramic view of the Drwęca Lake and the city itself. Note the artificially raised causeway where the Ostróda-Morąg railway once ran. At the end, you’ll cross the ‘Iron Bridge’ under which pass the ships sailing from Ostróda to Elbląg. Following the shore, you’ll pass by an island of about 11 ha called the ‘Nut Island’ (‘Wyspa Orzechowa’) or the ‘Love Island’ (‘Wyspa Miłości’) – it’s a perfect place for relaxation, for example for couples in love who need a bit of privacy. The Ostróda-Piławki path goes almost all the way through the forest – it’s perfect for summer when the scorching sun can be unbearable. A walk in the shade provided by old, majestic trees is pure pleasure. Do you want to splash around in a lake? Not a problem. There are several spots on the path from which you can reach the lake shore. To get back take the same route or get on a bus – there’s plenty on the Piławki-Ostróda road.

WATER SKI LIFT

The water ski lift of 800 metres with the equipment rental is one of the biggest sports attractions in the region and the favourite place of those who find accommodation in Ostróda.

The track for the water skiers follows a rectangle of 250 m x 150 m. The cable is spread between four steel poles and on the top of one of them, there’s an electric motor that launches the lift equipped with hooks for 7-9 water skiers. Next to the motor mast, there’s a starting platform for the skiers to kick off directly from it. The propulsion motor system is controlled electronically from the shore.

It’s a safe and comfortable way of practicing water skiing, as you follow the same track all over again. It’s also easier to learn to water ski using a lift than by skiing behind a motorboat. The lift can be used simultaneously by 7 do 9 people. On the shore, you’ll find the full infrastructure for skiers with a changing room, showers and equipment rental. The users are supervised by an instructor and a lifeguard at all times.

Drwęca Lake PIER

It’s the biggest inland pier in Poland. You can admire majestic sunsets from the stylish gazebo located 50 metres into the lake.

The Drwęca Lake shore is the most representative tourist part of Ostróda. At the boulevard surrounding the largest of Ostróda’s five lakes, you’ll find trendy bars and restaurants, a water ski lift, canoe trail, beach, sports and recreation complex, hotels, apartment blocks and an amphitheatre.

CITY BEACH ON THE SAJMINO LAKE – guarded bathing area from 19 June

The area is designed for sports: beach volleyball courts, the gated playground for children, outdoor gym, showers and toilets, piers, benches.
Around the lake there’s also a walking and cycling path with shelters where you can relax and have lunch.

Water navigation in Ostróda and Elbląg

Some of the most interesting Ostróda attractions are boat trips on the waterbodies of Warmia, Mazuria and Żuławy. Water navigation in Ostróda and Elbląg provides an opportunity to learn about the very interesting water systems of the Elbląg Canal and the Żuławy Loop (Pętla Żuławska), which feature hydrotechnical facilities dating from a hundred and several decades. On one of the routes, the boat is even pulled across the grass! Isn’t it tempting to rent an apartment in Ostróda, then?

CYCLING routes

Our cycling routes lead along paths, forest tracks, country trails, sometimes asphalt roads, and at other times through sand or dirt. These routes aren’t prepared specially for tourists, so you can see our region as it really is. You’ll feel everything we have on a daily basis – wonderful views, diverse forests, clean air as well as dirt on a country road and dew from tall grasses soaking the trouser legs and shoes... We recommend that you prepare well for hiking on our trails, and the cyclists had better take wide tyres and mudguards.

Sports and Entertainment Hall

The hall is designed for basketball, handball, volleyball and indoor football competitions. You can see it from our rental apartments’ parking.

It has a capacity of 800 people and features air-conditioning, dressing rooms, a professional sound system, sauna and gym. The hall allows for organisation of competitions, tournaments and trainings in comfortable conditions. The hall is located 400 metres form the Ostróda Apartments.

ATHLETICS STADIUM

The athletics stadium is located right next to the hotel. It’s suitable for organising training sessions and athletic competitions and features sanitary facilities. This modern building was completed in 2017. The stadium has a capacity of 500 people.

It features a six-lane tartan running track, full-size pitch with natural surface and a strip of artificial grass surrounding the tartan track for Nordic walking and running.

ROLLER RINK

The roller rink is located at the Sports and Recreation Complex, 3 kilometres from the hotel (about 6 minutes).

There’s an on-site rental service offering roller skates, rollerblades, pads and helmets for children and adults.

The Ostróda roller rink is open from Monday to Sunday from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Teutonic Castle in Ostróda

The Teutonic castle was erected in the second half of the 14th century at the site of a wooden fortress surrounded by the Drwęca Lake and the Drwęca River. It’s one of the oldest historic monuments in the region and is located at the heart of the city. The castle now houses the city's cultural institutions – the museum, the cultural centre and the library.

The Teutonic castle in Ostróda is located at the north-western edge of the medieval urban plan, near the eastern bank of the Drwęca Lake, in the southern part of the main estuary of the Drwęca River.

AMPHITHEATRE

The amphitheatre is one of the buildings that belong to the Ostróda Cultural Centre. It’s located in a picturesque area, on the bank of the Drwęca Lake and in the vicinity of a beautiful pier. The amphitheatre is completely roofed and has a seating capacity of 2500 people. The Ostróda amphitheatre often holds concerts, comedy festivals and other artistic events.

Fields of the Battle of GRUNWALD

15th July 1410 – almost everyone in Poland knows this date by heart. However, to see the site of the famous Battle of Grunwald in person is truly thrilling.

Probably neither the Teutonic Knights, nor the Knights of the Kingdom of Poland expected that the Battle of Grunwald would reverberate throughout history. Now, in addition to learning raw facts about the battle at school, you have an opportunity to see it in person. You can, or even should see the battle reenactment, the interesting museum and the fields of Grunwald that stretch beyond the horizon. The annual reenactment of the Battle of Grunwald held since 1998 is witnessed by 80-100 thousand people from Poland and around the world. It’s the biggest event of this kind in Poland, which aims to uphold and disseminate national traditions, cultivate Polishness, develop national, civic and cultural awareness, promote the place of national glory that is Grunwald Fields and honour the knighthood traditions that laid the foundation of the Polish Army. Knights’ camps, medieval craftsmen's towns and the reenactment of the Battle of Grunwald provide a zoom in on the Middle Ages and the life of knights to children, teenagers and even adults and the elderly.
